Council ok’s amended law on brgy blood donation
THE 18th Davao City Council approved on third and final reading last Tuesday an ordinance that promotes and encourages voluntary blood donation in barangays.
“An ordinance institutionalizing a barangay voluntary blood donation program of the city of Davao” was passed to amend the ordinance No. 0336-10, otherwise known as “An ordinance to institutionalize barangay blood donor’s program”.
The new amended ordinance gives guidelines and promotion for the Barangay Voluntary Blood Donation Program (VBDP) which consists of awareness and advocacy, donor recruitment and education, care and retention, mobile blood donation activities and management of the barangay blood pool.
The ordinance states that the barangay shall be responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the VBDP, including but not limited to: donor recruitment, mobile blood donation, trainings and educational campaigns, as well as the
following functions.
Through this ordinance, roles of Liga ng mga Barangay, blood service facilities like Philippine Red Cross and Davao Blood Center, and City Health Office in the VBDP has been defined.
The activities provided for the promotion of the Blood Donation Month includes the declaration of Barangay Blood Donor’s month every month of July, public education, and voluntary blood donation activity that consist of donor recruitment and mobile blood donation activities, in partnership with PRC and DBC which will be strategically scheduled at least twice a year to ensure a continuous and accessible supply of blood.
