Coun­cil ok’s amended law on brgy blood do­na­tion

THE 18th Davao City Coun­cil ap­proved on third and fi­nal read­ing last Tues­day an or­di­nance that pro­motes and en­cour­ages vol­un­tary blood do­na­tion in barangays.

“An or­di­nance in­sti­tu­tion­al­iz­ing a barangay vol­un­tary blood do­na­tion pro­gram of the city of Davao” was passed to amend the or­di­nance No. 0336-10, other­wise known as “An or­di­nance to in­sti­tu­tion­al­ize barangay blood donor’s pro­gram”.

The new amended or­di­nance gives guide­lines and pro­mo­tion for the Barangay Vol­un­tary Blood Do­na­tion Pro­gram (VBDP) which con­sists of aware­ness and ad­vo­cacy, donor re­cruit­ment and ed­u­ca­tion, care and re­ten­tion, mo­bile blood do­na­tion ac­tiv­i­ties and man­age­ment of the barangay blood pool.

The or­di­nance states that the barangay shall be re­spon­si­ble for the im­ple­men­ta­tion and main­te­nance of the VBDP, in­clud­ing but not lim­ited to: donor re­cruit­ment, mo­bile blood do­na­tion, train­ings and ed­u­ca­tional cam­paigns, as well as the

fol­low­ing func­tions.

Through this or­di­nance, roles of Liga ng mga Barangay, blood ser­vice fa­cil­i­ties like Philip­pine Red Cross and Davao Blood Cen­ter, and City Health Of­fice in the VBDP has been de­fined.

The ac­tiv­i­ties pro­vided for the pro­mo­tion of the Blood Do­na­tion Month in­cludes the dec­la­ra­tion of Barangay Blood Donor’s month ev­ery month of July, pub­lic ed­u­ca­tion, and vol­un­tary blood do­na­tion ac­tiv­ity that con­sist of donor re­cruit­ment and mo­bile blood do­na­tion ac­tiv­i­ties, in part­ner­ship with PRC and DBC which will be strate­gi­cally sched­uled at least twice a year to en­sure a con­tin­u­ous and ac­ces­si­ble sup­ply of blood.
