- By Adam B. Morrell

THE Davao City cagebelles will work on their chemistry during the quartering in a bid to defend their Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet title set to open on February 17 here.

The quartering will begin on January 17 at the Mabini Elementary School.

Coach Claire Sosoban told Sun.Star Davao yesterday that they need to strengthen their team work since the team is composed of players from different schools.

"Sa karon gina pahinog pa namo ang individual skills nila. Mostly man gud sa roster for Davraa kay mga mandalahay sa ilang teams that's why focus jud mi sa teamwork (We are honing their individual skills since most of our Davraa players are key players from their respective teams)," said Sosoban who will be assisted by Cyrielle Ramintas.

The team is composed of Farrah Faye Suarez, Kate Buenaventura, Mel Blanco, Rozie Amatong, Glorda Soriano and Sheen Dagatan of Ateneo de Davao University, Palarong Pambansa veteran Domique Lee Sario and Fave Lugasan of Assumption College of Davao, Cabantian National High School's Charlene Carcallas and Christie Bariquit as well as Mary Cris Mejasco of Calinan National High School.

Sosoban, however, said that they started training last December but aside from improving their chemistry inside the court, they must also develop the bond outside the court which is very vital for strengthening their teamwork.

Though admitting that they feel the pressure of retaining the crown, she remains confident of her team.

"I want to continue the legacy na gipaningkamutan sa mga niaging coaches. Isa sa mga na-learn nako kay sir Danny Colango to be calm amid of chaos (I want to continue the legacy of past coaches. I learned from coach Colango to be calm amid of chaos)," Sosoban said, adding that they will just train hard to prepare for the tournament.
