Expect more rain : OCD 11

-

THE Office of Civil Defense (OCD 11) advised those dwelling in low-lying and landslide prone areas to take precautionary measures as another Low Pressured Area (LPA) was sighted and will generate heavy rainfall.

OCD 11 regional di-

rector Leoncio Cirunay said that as of 3 a.m., the LPA was estimated at 300 km East Southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur (7.8N, 129.0E). The Northeast Monsoon will be affecting Northern and Central Luzon while the Tail-End of a Cold Front will be experienced at the Eastern Section of Southern Luzon.

In the weather advisory of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to Trough of LPA.

“Moderate to strong winds from Northeast to North with moderate to rough seas over the eastern section of Mindanao. Rest of Mindanao will have moderate to strong winds from the Northeast to East with moderate to rough seas,” the weather state bureau said.

Meanwhile, the classes resumed yesterday in Compostela Valley after the water level have subsided including Monkayo, Montevista, Compostela, New Bataan, Mawab, Mabini and Nabunturan except Magsaysay Elementary School, San Juan ES (Basak) and Magading ES. On Sunday, a family of four died in a landslide incident in Tandik, Maragusan, Compostela Valley Province after houses were submerged in mud after a night of heavy rain in the areas.

On the other hand, the province of Davao del Norte has declared state of calamity as it has yet to recover from the effects of Tropical Severe Storm "Vinta" last December 2017 amid the continuing rain.

The OCD 11, he said, are now monitoring the movement of the LPA if it will trigger widespread flood in Davao region so they could raise their alert level status and prepositioned emergency responders. JCR
