DAVAO City Water District turned over a water supply system to Brgy. Marilog on December 19, 2017 after one year of operation and extensive capacity building.

This activity was done through a simple ceremony attended by DCWD representatives headed by assistant general manager for administration Alfonso E. Laid, Brgy. Marilog council and residents, Brgy. Katipunan council, Katipunan-Ladian-Marahan Water System Association (Kalmawasa) officers, and Obu-Manuvu Ancestral Domain Tribal Council of Leaders and Elders, Inc.

Highlighting the ceremony was a padugo, a tribal ritual using the blood of an animal to bring prosperity and express gratitude for the gift the community received. This ritual was facilitated by Lipatuan Datu Joel Unad. The Kalmawasa officers also took their oath accepting their new duties and responsibilities in sustaining the water supply system.

The project, which costs P2.5 million, provides access to safe drinking water to the 234 households in Sitio Marahan and 116 households in Sitio Ladian. Classified as Level II, the water supply system is a piped system with a communal water point serving around four to six households within 25 meters. Aside from rehabilitating the water supply system, DCWD constructed a water treatment facility, laid pipelines, and installed communal faucets.

DCWD also assisted in preparing for the turn over through the conduct of various communityorganizing and capacity building activities, all geared to equip the community with skills to run their own water supply system including plumbing, financial management, among others.

This project is under DCWD’s Corporate Social Responsibility and Gender and Development programs which have been designed to aid marginalized communities and promote the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goal No. 6 on Clean Water and Sanitation.
