- By Juliet C. Revita

JOY Wu, who hails from Davao City and the country’s representative for the Miss Chinese International Pageant (MCIP) 2018 to be held in Hong Kong on February 3, is all set to bring home the crown.

Gracing yesterday’s Kapehan sa Dabaw at The Annex Building, SM City Davao, Wu said that after bagging the title as Miss Chinatown Philippines 2017 during the coronation night held at The Theater of Solaire Resort and Casino in Parañaque City, September last year, she has been busy preparing for the upcoming pageant.

“I am honored to represent, especially Davao City to this Chinese International pageant. I wish to get the support of Dabawenyos and the whole Philippines to show the world the special beauty not just in terms of place or country but also the people,” Wu said.

Aside from proper discipline to stay fit, she also learned Cantonese to boost her confidence as she battles with other competitors.

Setting aside the aesthetic aspect, she believes that what matters most in order to win the crown is one’s heart and mindset.

In 2002, Carlyn Aguilar won Second Runner-Up Philippines in the same pageant and the country has been sending representatives since.

“I want to make myself confident and positive to show them that the Filipino’s personality is optimistic,” she said. “I wish I could do my best for this pageant and show them the different beauty of Dabawenyos,” she said.

As of now, there are about 20 candidates all over the world who will be vying for the prestigious title.

There will be question and answer portion, showcase of talent, swimsuit competition, gowns and formal.

“I want to show them Davao City. How the place and the people like here in Davao City. That’s my motivation actually even during the Miss Chinatown Philippines in Manila,” she said.

Local pageant director Oscar Casaysay who was also present during the forum shared that Wu who is taking up Mass Communication student of Ateneo de Davao University is a Dean’s Lister student. In order to join the pageant and maintain her honor record, she has to quit studying for a while this semester but she assured that she will finish her studies after it.

Meanwhile, they appealed the Dabawenyos to support her towards her journey as online voting has now officially begun.
