Runners’ club wishes event be part in ‘Araw’ sports calendar

DAVAO Ultrarunners Club (DUC) will hold its first Davao International Marathon that will kick off on March 11 in celebration of the 81st Araw ng Dabaw at the Victoria Plaza Parking Lot, Davao City.

Chai Araneta, DUC overall local race coordinator, in a phone interview with Sun.Star Davao, said they aim this event to be included in the Araw ng Dabaw sports calendar

With this, Araneta said they will meet with the Sports Development Division-City Mayors Office (SDD-CMO) this Monday, January 22 to discuss further details of the event.

"Positive naman yung response ni sir Mikey (SDD-CMO chief Michael Denton Aportadera). Sana lang makapasok sa sports calendar ng Araw ng Dabaw," she said.

They expect some 500 participants from all over the world including runners from Kenya, Germany and United States of America among others.

The event will feature three categories which includes the 42k, 21k and 5k.

The registration will start today until February 28.

Early bird registration fees are at P1,300 (42k), P1,000 (21k) and P450 (5k) inclusive of race bib, timing chip, event singlet, finishers shirt, finishers medal and certificate.

The regular registration is priced at P1,450 for 42k, P1,300 for 21k and P450 for 5k.

Registration satellites are at Podium Multisport in Davao City and Activo Fitness in Tagum City.
