Deped 11 backing Ironman 70.3 here

-

THE Department of Education (Deped) 11 will support the Alveo Ironman 70.3 Davao on March 25.

This was bared during a meeting attended by Deped assistant regional director Teresita Tambagan, representatives of Sunrise Events and heads from different government agencies including Sports Development Division-City Mayors Office (SDD-CMO) officer-in-charge Mikey Aportadera and Davao City Assistant Administrator lawyer Dwight Domingo at the Deped Davao City Division conference room held Tuesday.

During the meeting, DepEd Division superintendents Dr. Maria Ines Asuncion of Davao City, Dr. Dee Silva of Panabo City and Dr. Josephine Fadul of Davao del Norte pledged to field around 5,000 students on the stretch of the National Highway from Azuela in Lanang, Davao City to Tagum City to provide a festive atmosphere during the bicycle race of the Ironman 70.3 Davao.

The supervisors said they will field their school bands, drum and bugle and students with flaglets during the race.

While the Davao City Division vowed to field 2,000 students for the event, Panabo City and Davao del Norte agreed to send joint 3,000 students.

Domingo, meanwhile, said Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio talked with Davao del Norte Governor Anthony Del Rosario for the total closure of the road during the event to ensure the safety and security of the triathletes.

Aportadera, for his part, said Mayor Duterte-Carpio ordered to double the security and safety of the participants as the event expects some 1,800 triathletes from 38 countries including celebrities.

“Choppers from the Philippine Airforce will be available to airlift athletes to the Southern Philippines Medical Center in case of accident during race,” Aportadera said. ABM with Seth delos Reyes of SDD-CMO
