90% ready City boxers gearing for Davraa Meet 2018
THE Davao City Durians boxing team is wrapping up its training as the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet 2018 opens on February 18 here.
Davao City Durians boxing team assistant coach Jay Reeve Guerrero, in yesterday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum held at The Annex of SM City Davao, said the refurbished Davao Boxing Gym at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center was helpful in their training that began last January 17.
"In the morning, we are doing road run and cardio for conditioning while our proper boxing training will be from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.," Guerrero said, thanking the city government of Davao through the Sports Development Division-City Mayors Office (SDD-CMO).
The Davraa Meet-bound boxers are being trained by by Librado Sagarino, a licensed Abap (Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines) referee and a seasoned boxing trainer of Davao City.
Last year, Davao Durians brought home one silver medal courtesy of Kurt Manigsasa.
Guerrero, however, expects a different output this year despite the tough competition awaits them brought by Digos City and Panabo City divisions among others.
"We got a month (of training) while other divisions only had 15 days of quartering period," Guerrero said.
The Davao City Durians will lean on Reymond Albupera and Emmanuel Canubas of Marilog National High School, Bernardo Balorio, Ian Ivan Oba and Adrian Kieth Fernandez of Calinan National High School, Addie Jay Baluyot, John Paul Mati-ong and Esmael Derogongan of F. Bustamante National High School and Davao City National High School's Chad Andrey Fornes and John Alvin Gonzales.
