- By Karen Lou Deloso

DAVAO Oriental Governor Nelson L. Dayanghirang along with all eleven mayors of the province, board members, and majority of other local officials have joined the newly formed political party in the region called Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP).

During the HNP’s formal launch on Friday, February 23, at the Royal Mandaya Hotel in Davao City, Governor Dayanghirang and around 120 officials from Davao Oriental have vowed their solid support to the party as they took their oath together with hundreds of other government officials from Davao City and three other provinces in the region: Davao del Norte, Davao Occidental and Compostela Valley.

Determined to be the new drivers for change, party members say they are throwing their solid support to the causes of the organization as they believe in its vision of aggressively pushing the development agenda of the national government under President Rodrigo Duterte.

Dayanghirang said that joining the HNP party means a lot for his province as it will strengthen ties and cooperation with other local government units in the region and in turn will help facilitate the entry of more development opportunities for his province as part of this alliance.

“Today, we have just witnessed our enduring spirit and strength as public servants. Indeed it is worth pondering the official creed of our new political party that mandates us to lead the efforts that redound to the general welfare of our people in their pursuit for peace and prosperity,” he said.

“We believe that a good governance practice must be initiated by a strong political will of the leaders, like us, as we embark on programs that aim to uplift the conditions of our people by providing peace, ensuring environmental protection, promoting health and well-being, improving public welfare and enhancing public services. Let us continue to strive to be the prime movers of government programs to drive our most beloved Davao Region towards long-lasting progress it deserves,” says Governor Dayanghirang, who deliv- ered the closing remarks during the party’s General Assembly.

Chaired by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, the HNP was created to build a stronger, secured and developed Davao Region by facilitating the realization of positive change, transformation, progress and stability, thus, improving the life of all Davaoeño.

Mayor Duterte-Carpio explained that with the strengthened cooperation between the provinces, development will spur and expand to other provinces in the region. She said spreading development outside of Davao City and into the provinces will help decongest her city and will help address the problem on illegal settlers. “Davao City is already saturated.
