Hold on a little longer, young adults

- By Marla Lavilla Arreza

ADULTING – a slang term we, young adults, use when pertaining to the transition from being a teen to a full-grown individual. A transition we never thought would be so hard.

It’s a tough world out there. It’s either we conquer the world or the world conquers us. It’s either we reach the sky or we hit rock-bottom.

It’s a trap. Remember when we were still studying, and we were dying to graduate just so we can do all the things we want? Well, it turns out that it’s not the case. We just entered a world where there’s no turning back.

It’s a world of uncertainty. Back in the days, we were so sure of how we want our lives would be when we graduate. We basically have plotted almost everything from what career to take, what age to get a house, and the like. But in the real world, it turns out that we hold no control of what could happen next. Everything can surprise you. Everything can catch you off guard.

It’s a roller coaster ride. One day you’re so happy, and the next day you’re so down. Sometimes we want to be surrounded by so many people, sometimes we want to go invisible. And when things become a cycle, we just feel numb – we stop caring about life.

It’s an unfair battle field. Before we entered the real world, we invested so much time and effort going to the best schools in the countray, excelling in academics, and engaging ourselves in extra activities, hoping that these would serve as a ticket to a brighter future. But when you get to the real world, you will see how some were just really born lucky and privileged. No matter how you work hard, some just reach the top without even having to climb the stairs.

We see, there are a lot of reasons that could possibly hinder us from reaching our full potential. It’s a reality that a lot of us still struggle to accept. It’s a reality that no one ever prepared us. But hey, please hold on a little longer.

It is true that when you’re stuck in a tough position, it is hard to see the good in it. But like what people say, it does not rain forever – the sun will shine after.

Some say that today’s young adults are by far the best generation the world has ever produced. We experienced both worlds – the world prior to high technological presence, and the world with continuous technological innovation. No other generations would ever experience that. Use that to our advantage.

We’re still young, and still have a very long way to go. Just imagine that if we stop now, we’re not going to ever get to where we intend to be.

In life, if there’s one thing that we all should learn is that things will not always go the way we may like them to but it is always up to us how we are going to deal with it.

It can really be frustrating, and our mind can be our darkest enemy in those times. Feed that with good thoughts. Train that to be strong. Don’t get defeated. Don’t. While life can be tough a lot of times, remember that we all have only one lifetime to live after all.

We’re swimming in the ocean of this so-called life, and a lot of us are still at shore. Enjoy the dive, ride the tides. Slowly, we will be surprised just how far we have reached in this journey. So please, hold on a little longer.
