Hear! Hear!
IN the local news, the City Government of Davao has proposed legislation for the protection of children at risk and to ensure their protection especially those who are in conflict with the law. This proposal is a long side with the City’s present Children’s Welfare Code.
This is happy news for everyone, especially for those who have been openly, publicly and repeatedly exploited by individuals or organizations.
I happened to experience delays in traffic because of rallies in the city -- rallies with the children in the street, holding placards and shouting at the top of their voices on issues I doubt they understand and under the scourging heat of the sun. I have read stories of children displaced from provinces and placed in a crowded and foul-smelling so-called sanctuary. I have known stories of children aside from those posted in the internet who are used in the war against the government, in the propaganda and in asking money from other countries to support their organization.
It is really painful, disheartening and alarming.
How could people allow such things to happen to children? How could women, parents, mothers who are in the organizations allow such exploitations and abuse to children who just like their own children? Would they be happy and feel satisfied if they see their own children in the streets, in the so-called sanctuary suffering and in the social media asking for money? I doubt if they will let their own children suffer the same fate, I doubt if they will let those things happen.
Indeed, they are incredulous.
But with the presence of the City’s Children’s Welfare Code and of course of this legislation a relief could be felt. I am visioning that this legislation be implemented by the City with might. I am hoping that they could intervene with those children used in the rally. I am hoping that they could intervene and take notice of those children who are in UCCP-Haran suffering from the distress of their situation and environment. I am also hoping that as this proposed legislation will be in effect, other cities will also look into it and will also enforce their own. I am really hoping that this kind of legislation or tenor of legislation will be discussed in Congress and eventually, become a law.
With the natural innocence of the children, they really need our attention and protection.
Again, hear, hear to the legislators of Davao City.
