- Ziyarah Manalo/CIO Tagum

TAGUM CITY – Close to 500 bora-bora (improvised or modified) mufflers were destroyed by a road roller in front of the New City Hall, in line with the City Government of Tagum’s sustained effort to eliminate this noisy motorcycle accessory.

Mayor Allan L. Rellon together with city officials, city hall employees, policemen, and other ordinary citizens witnessed the destruction of the unlawful motorcycle parts which were dismantled and confiscated by local authorities.

The destruction of the bora-bora mufflers is a reminder to all Tagumenyos that noise pollution is a serious offense, thereby contravening the provision of RA 4135 which states that “No motor vehicle shall be operated in such manner as to cause it to emit or make any unnecessary or disagreeable odor, smoke or noise.”

The Tagum City Police Station confiscated the bora-bora mufflers in violation of Republic Act 4136, otherwise known as the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.

PSupt. Julius A. Borja, the Chief of Police of Tagum City Police Station, reminded everyone to stop improvising their vehicles as this disrupts peace and might cause traffic accidents. He added that peacekeepers won’t tolerate such disturbance and warned the public to not wait for the LGU to impound their vehicles for various violations of the law and city ordinances.
