-

THE San Miguel Alab Pilipinas will try to redeem itself when it battles Saigon Heat of Vietnam when the Asean Basketball League (ABL) unfurls at 6:30 p.m. today at the University of Southeastern Philippines (Usep) Gym in Davao City.

Gates are open at 4:30 p.m.

One year ago, Alab Pilipinas lost to the Vietnamese, 62-72, that was witnessed by more than 2,600 Dabawenyos at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center (DCRC).

Former Ginebra San Miguel Kings import Justin Brownlee will beef up Alab Pilipinas that also parades Gilas Pilipinas player Bobby Ray Parks Jr..

Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO) officer-in-charge Michael Denton Aportadera, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao yesterday, said the revitalized Alab Pilipinas could pull it off this time.

"I believe that Alab has boosted their confidence, they are recharged and more competitive with its freshly-acquired players and coaching staff," Aportadera said.

But the SDD-CMO chief, being the host, underscored the security and safety of their third hosting of the league.

He said that they already coordinated with the Central 911, Davao City Transportation and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO), Davao City Police Office, Task Force Davao, Davao City's Public Safety and Security Command Center and Police Auxiliary for the security of the event and spectators.

The game is free admission.

"This is for the celebration of the 81st Araw ng Dabaw that's why we will control the giving away of tickets to avoid those who sell it," he added.ABM
