'Araw' Champions League to kick off tomorrow

BASKETBALL Avenue will bring an exciting basketball action in celebratio­n of the 81st Araw ng Dabaw as the Champions League Araw ng Dabaw special will tip off tomorrow, March 20, at the Davao City Recreation Center Almendras Gym.

This non-profitable league is accredited and recognized by the Sports Developmen­t DivisionCi­ty Mayor's Office (SDDCMO) as part of the 81st Araw ng Dabaw sports calendar.

It will feature six Davao City homegrown teams which include Reefside Surf Co., Sumo G.I. Sheets, Myrzias-Choi Barbers, RB3 Spartans, Gold Star Davao and Mark Anthony Constructi­on and Supply which will vie for honors while adding festivity to the celebratio­n of the city's culture, tradition and people.

This will be the firstever commercial B entered in the Araw ng Dabaw history which aims to give this time the opportunit­y to the homegrown basketball players of Davao City who already passed their prime as well as to provide a high level of competitio­n for the rising stars.

The Champions League could also be a filler event while waiting for staging of the historical Alveo Ironman 70.3 Davao slated this March 25.

The opening ceremonies will open at the Davao City Recreation Center while the eliminatio­ns and semifinals will take place at the Rizal Memorial Colleges.

The finals, which will be on April 7, will be at the Davao City Recreation Center.

Big cash prizes await winners as the champion will receive P60,000 while the runner-up will take home P20,000.

The most valuable player will also receive gift checks from the sponsors.

During the opening ceremony, an authentic basketball shoes will be raffled off together with gift packs and gift checks.

The ceremony will start at 6:30pm. ABM
