Run for Waters successful

IN celebratio­n of the World Water Day, Department of Environmen­t and Natural Resources (DENR)-Environmen­tal Management Bureau 11 holds a one-day Run for Waters that kicked off on Thursday, March 22, 4 a.m. at Rizal Park, Davao City.

Engr. Nestor V. Patnugot, OIC, Regional Director, Chief Environmen­tal Management Specialist said that “The purpose of the Run for Waters is for people to understand that we need to preserve and protect our waters as it is important to our lives, we will not let our waters get destroyed by any means.”

There are estimated 400 runners who joined the kicked off and majority of it came from different municipali­ties across Mindanao including Davao City, Kidapawan City, Cotabato City, Tagum City, Compostell­a Valley and among others.

Meanwhile, one of the Elite Runners from Kidapawan City, Jimboy Lugay is in triumph of the 4k male category by finishing at 11 minutes and 36 seconds, almost just 2 seconds ahead of Arlan Arbois who finished at 11 minutes and 38 seconds securing the second spot. However, Elmer Bartolo from Calinan Dist. securing the third spot with just 12 seconds difference from the second placer with an actual time of 11 minutes and 50 seconds.

Clocking at 16 minutes and 5 seconds, May Ann Edayan from Eden Toril victorious­ly claimed the title of the 4k women’s category champion, Emem Avergonzad­o who secured the second spot who finish at 16 minutes and 10 seconds and our Elite runner from Lebak, Sultan Kudarat, Jennifer Quia settles for third place finishing at 17 minutes and 18 seconds.

The success of the event was not only to give a chance to the locals to have fun with friends and relatives but it also raises an awareness to save bodies of water in Davao City.
