- By MARK PERANDOS

DAVAO has since become the country’s go-to spot for big activities.

For the first time in Mindanao, the Alveo Ironman 70.3 triathlon will take place here.

Approximately 1,800 athletes from around the world will be racing tomorrow, March 25, 2018.

The race starts with a 1.9km swim in Azuela Cove, Lanang.

Then it is the 90km bike course. Athletes need to bike from Azuela property then to Pananbo City and then to its turn-around point in Tagum City.

After making the turn-around in Tagum City, athletes will return to Azuela for transition 2 to enter the running leg of the course.

After racking their bikes, athletes will head back out of Azuela and turn right heading to J.P Laurel Avenue for the 21km run course. The race ends at the finish line in Azuela Soccer Field.

Prior to the race, the Alveo Ironman 70.3 Expo was held within the Azuela Cove last March 22 where racing athletes participated in it to buy the equipment they needed on their run.

The organizing team also set up a registration booth for the registration of athletes who wish to participate.

Just yesterday several national and international triathlon athletes participated in a run-out that was led by the Alaska Milk Corporation started from Seda Hotel on J.P Laurel Avenue to San Roque Elementary School.

After the run out is a milk drinking session with the athletes who participated in the run-out and the 500 plus kids from the San Roque Elementary School.

On the other hand, Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio said in a press conference in Azuela Cove, Lanang, Davao City yesterday that she was very happy with the fact that the Ironman will finally be held in the city.

“I have been wanting to do an Ironman since my first term as mayor of Davao City. Kinakabahan ako but I am very happy and excited for the next three days for Davao City. We welcome the participants who came here despite the Martial Law. I hope you can experience Davao City the best way possible,” Duterte-Carpio said.
