Another denies Sereno claim
MANILA - Like acting Chief Justice Antonio Carpio, Associate Justice Teresita Leonardo de Castro denied that she failed to submit her complete Statement of Assets Liabilities and Networth (SALN) to the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) when she vied for the Chief Justice post in 2012.
The JBC released a document on Monday, March 26, certifying that Leonardo-De Castro submitted SALNs from 1997 to 2011 or 15 SALNs, exceeding the required number of SALNs required by the JBC, which is 10.
The JBC issued the certification upon the request of Leonardo-De Castro. It was signed by Court Attorney IV Jenifer Cabrillo-Salvador and noted by retired Associate Justice Jose Catral Mendoza, JBC executive committee chairperson.
Last March 23, the JBC released a certification proving that Carpio was able to comply with the JBC's SALN requirements.
Carpio submitted SALNs for the year 2001 up to 2011 and also from 1992 to 1994.
The certification issued by the JBC belies the claim of Chief Justice on-leave Maria Lourdes Sereno that Carpio and De Castro, along with other
then candidates for the Chief Justice post have failed to file their complete SALNs.
In her reply to the quo warranto petition filed against her by the Office of the Solicitor General, Sereno said the SALN requirement was waived by the JBC for all applicants including Carpio and Leonardo-De Castro.
Sereno has been accused of failing to submit her complete SALNs to the JBC.
In its quo warranto petition, the OSG said Sereno is unlawfully holding her office because of her failure to fully disclose her SALN, which is mandated by law. Keith A. Calayag/ SunStar Philippines
