Pocket forest launched in Comval
COMPOSTELA VALLEY - In line with the celebration of the “11th Bulawan Festival and 20th Founding Anniversary” with the theme “Comval @ 20: Growing Green for Good Governance”, the provincial government of Compostela Valley through the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (Penro) launched its province-wide establishment of man-made pocket forest project and tree-planting activity.
The activity which was held recently was conducted at the Provincial Tree Park, Capitol Phase II, Provincial Capitol Grounds, Cabidianan, Nabunturan, Comval.
The activity is part of the Provincial Ordinance No. 46-2017, mandating the establishment of a municipal man-made pocket forest in the 11 municipalities of the province.
Comval Governor Jayvee Tyron L. Uy led the tree-planting activity together with Davao City 1st District Representative Karlo Nograles as the guest of honor.
Gov. Uy expressed his gratitude to the participants as he explained that the activity is part of the celebration of this year's Bulawan theme, which is the planet, along with it is the environment
“It is true that our province is a pro-environment province as we celebrate this year’s Bulawan festival as one of our environmental advocacies,” said Gov. Uy.
“Gusto nako ampingan kini ug mapasa sa sunod na henerasyon para ang atong probinsya ma protektahan pa gyud sa mga impending challenges like climate change,” he added.
“We want that pocket forest be replicated in every municipalities of Comval so that after 20 or 30 years from now, we have to look back, that these trees that we had planted, naa na kitay makita ug makatabang na sa atong kinaiyahan,” said Gov. Uy.
Also present during the tree planting activity were Congressman Maricar Zamora of the 1st District of Comval together with the provincial officials led by Vice Governor Manuel E. Zamora, provincial board members, municipal mayors and officials, PG Department Heads and Assistant PG Heads, head of the National Agencies and employees.
“Through the strong legal mandate of the existing laws and local ordinances, Local Government Units are encouraged to protect, develop, rehabilitate and establish communal forest,” said Eugene Alaba, PENRO Officer of Comval.
The man-made forest is a "forest crop raised artificially, either by sowing or planting and it is established by afforestation on land which previously did not carry forest “within the living memory” or “within 50 years.” It involves the extension of the area of the forest.
