Reflections from Easter
WITH Easter just past, may we start anew from there.
True, Easter comes every year and everything has become a ritual, but we can always make this a fresh new experience every year by meditating on our own and our progress or retrogress.
“Although no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending,” so said a quote that is often misattributed to Swiss Reformed theologian Carl Barth but is actually by James R. Sherman who is most known for his book “Stop Procrastinating -- Do it”. Sherman is an inspirational writer and has at least 19 books to his name mostly dealing with encouraging people to move on and be successful.
While we can find inspiration everyday, meditating on our lives past on Easter Sunday somehow gives more meaning into this, and can become a greater inspiration amid the backdrop of Jesus Christ’s Life, Passion, Sufferings, and Resurrection.
While we can always strive to be the best versions of ourselves everyday and count successes upon successes, nothing can ground us more to how life is best expressed than by meditating and pondering on what we have become and how. It’s all written in the Holy books, whether it be the Bible, the Qur’an, or the Teachings of Buddha, and all other great books from which great religions have sprung from.
Through pondering and meditation on the words and our lives, we come to realize that they are all saying the same, and that there need not have been any delineation on what belief system you have embraced. It’s all about the human and what distinguishes us from animals -- the heart of compassion and the will to become. As we start another day, another year, let us reflect on John 20: 15-17... “He (Christ) asked her, ‘Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?’
“Thinking he was the gardener, she said, ‘Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.’ “Jesus said to her, ‘Mary.’ “She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, ‘Rabboni!’ (which means ‘Teacher’).
“Jesus said, ‘Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” It’s the day after Easter, there is too much to be rejoicing about.
