Bigger Ironman 70.3 eyed in Davao 2019
A MUCH-bigger Ironman 70.3 Davao will be expected here in 2019, following the successful hosting of Alveo Ironman 70.3 Davao that came to a close last March 25, said Sports Development Division-City Mayor’s Office (SDD-CMO) Officer-in-charge Michael Denton Aportadera.
The SDD-CMO chief said they aim to double the turnout of participants next year, targeting 3,000.
“Plano namo i-double pa ang mga mag apil, especially from the foreign countries (We plan to increase the number of forking participants),” Aportadera said in an interview with Sun.Star Davao yesterday.
He said they will also make some improvements such as adding festive atmosphere and more hydration booths during the bike part in the next two edition that Davao City will host.
“We will add more entertainment on and before the race,” he said as the Davao City has forged a three-year contract to host the same event.
The successful staging of the Alveo Ironman 70.3 Davao, according to him, is a statement that the city could still showcase its best security amid the ongoing martial law.
“Confident kaayo ko especially sa atoang medical team led by Dr. Benedict Valdez, the Central 911 of Davao City and all the marshalls. Lipay kaayo mi walay namatay during the race and no major accidents (We are confident with our medical team led by Dr. Benedict Valdez, the Cental 911 of Davao City and all marshalls. We are happy that nobody died during the race),” he said.
Aportadera added that the city and its partners were given a boost after hearing positive feedbacks and comments from the participants and spectators.
He also cited the huge contribution of neighboring local government units (LGUs) of Panabo City, Carmen and Tagum City for the success of the race. ABM
