Davao City captures Prisaa 11 jr basketball gold medal
TAGUM City, Davao del Norte - Davao City scored back-to-back wins over Davao del Sur in their best-of-three championship series to claim the Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) 11 Regional Meet secondary boys basketball gold medal at the Rotary Gym here Tuesday evening.
Davao City, coached by Emar Human and Environmental College’s Jun Montalban, defeated Cor Jesu College of Digos-bannered Davao del Sur, 90-80, in the second game after eking out a rousing 113-108 win in their first encounter.
Emar’s Kevin Baste led the charge for Davao City with 31 baskets in their second game as Arnie Villanueva of Agro Industrial College of the Philippines (AIFCP) Sailors chipped in 15. Coach Montalban, who has been mentoring the city’s junior Prisaa basketball team for five years now, is confident that the team stands better chances to improve the region’s bronze medal finish last year in Iba, Zambales when they compete in the National Prisaa Games 2018 set in Tagbilaran City, Bohol on April 21 to 28.
“Same lineup ito from last year sa Iba nationals pero may nadagdag from JMC and Agro. Malaki ng chance nating magimprove ang standing sa Bohol, “Montalban said.
He, however, added that Calabarzon, Central Visayas and Western Visayas remain forces to reckon with for the title.
Montalban also said, “Balik kami agad sa training, wala nang pahinga.”
