Summerfrolic moved to May

-

INSTEAD of being celebrated every April, the Summerfrolic party in Mati, Davao Oriental will now be moved to the first week of May due to some additional activities prepared this year.

At the sidelines of the Kapehan sa Dabaw press conference at SM City Davao yesterday, April 9, the Incident Management Team (IMT) Davao Oriental Commander Ednar Dayanghirang said they are expecting about 8,000 tourists from different parts of the country to celebrate Summerfrolic in Mati this summer. Because of this, they are already currently preparing for the great influx of tourists as they are expecting more tourists compared to last year. Most of these tourists, as the same with previous years, are expected to be millenials.

“This year, Summerfrolic have partnered with the owner of Pujada Island. The island was lease so in other words the party will extend to that island. There will be more activities, that’s why we are expecting more people. There will be a boat to take the tourists there,” Dayanghirang said.

Next week, the provincial government of Davao Oriental is set to meet with the organizers of Summerfrolic to finalize concerns especially on security.

“By law, it says that when at least 100 people are gathered, you have to activate the incident management team. [For our tourism events], the incident management team will be activated and we will be preparing for that event including the security – military, police, security service, and the barangay,” he said.

“Summer is here with us. Reminder is first you have to be hydrated. Wear the proper clothes to avoid accidents, apply skin protection when necessary, and also report to authorized personalities for any suspicious people around. The community should be policing itself,” Dayanghirang added. JPA
