- By Jennie P. Arado

THE Davao City Tourism Masterplan, now on its early development stages, is seen to benefit the entire community, said City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) head.

As previously reported, the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (Tieza) had already allotted a P10 million budget for the completion of the tourism masterplan of Davao City.

CTOO head Generose Tecson said the scheduled bidding for the masterplan was on Tuesday, April 10. She plans to follow up with Tieza for any updates regarding the bidding.

Tecson said the creation of the masterplan will put together all the tourism-related concerns of the city government as well as the private sectors. Through this, the concerns will be properly and efficiently addressed.

“We want consultations as to what we really want to happen, so we can get the right situation of Davao City with regards to tourism and where we want to go. We want to know the proper branding for Davao tourism. We would also know what we should do first, what support activities should we do so we can attain our objectives,” said Tecson in an earlier interview.

She said the P10 million budget will include the creation of the mission, vision, the long-term and mid-term plans for tourism of Davao City, and most especially the tourism branding that it wants to sustain. Tecson emphasized the need for the local government unit and the private sectors to work hand-in-hand as the private sectors will also be especially affected by how the tourism of the city goes.

Tecson said that when there’s a tourism masterplan, it is easier to work well and coordinate with the community. She said they plan to work out and consult with the Indigenous People (IP) in Davao City as well.

“People should be aware of the effect of tourism. Aside from its job generation capacity, we also need to plan just how many tourist destinations, or resorts for example, we can compute the limitations of our resources. Of course, we have to consider that in tourism, the resources of the locals may be chopped off that’s why we have to plan what our capacities are and to do social preparations as well,” Tecson said.

There has yet to be timeline for the completion of the masterplan however during previous interviews, Tecson said if MACKY LIM/FILE PHOTO the master planning will commence within April 2018, it is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2018.
