Your right is also their right
RESPECT begets respect. I’ve heard this so many times already, that we should respect others in order for us to be respected. I’ve read so many articles about how people demand respect and why people should be respected.
We were taught to respect the elders, to respect the professional, to respect our family and friends, in short we were taught to be respectful at all times. To respect their decisions, their choice, their personality, their job, their status, and to respect them as a being.
I find it very ironic why we ask others for respect but we ourselves cannot respect ourselves and those who deserve respect. I personally believe that respect is not only for people with high distinction, for celebrities, for politicians, for professionals but for everyone.
We should respect people that we pass by the streets, the people in the grocery shops, public utility drivers, security guards, street vendors, waiters and waitresses, saleslady/ salesman, and many more. These people also have the right to be respected, through polite greetings and saying thank you.
Salute to those who choose to respect even the lowest person in the society, to those people who do not just pay respect to gain fame, to those people who are real. We all have the right to be respected, famous or ordinary, rich or people, boy or girl, straight or not, young or old.
It’s a shame that there are people who think so high of themselves. Being rich or popular is not a reason to disrespect and belittle others. I abhor those people who have the audacity to judge other people’s choice and decisions.
We should never forget to inculcate in ourselves that regardless of our status in the society, we all have the equal rights to be respected, and for the nth time we should also never forget to give respect as much as we want respect for ourselves.
