THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Davao Region on Monday said the preparations for the May 14 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections are almost complete.

Comelec-Davao assistant director Marlon Casquejo said preparations as to documents and materials are 100 percent complete, while trainings for teachers are 90 percent complete.

"It was already confirmed that the barangay and SK elections will push on May 14. Pahimangno namo sa mga mu-file ug (Our reminders to all those who will file their) certificate of candidacy to observe election rules," Casquejo said.

Comelec earlier announced that the election period is from April 14 until May 21. Candidates can file their certificates of candidacy from April 14 until April 20. Campaign period will be from May 4 to May 12.

As of Monday, Casquejo said, there are already about 400 barangay and SK candidates who signified their interest to run in the May 14 elections. There are 182 barangays in Davao City and 1,162 in Davao Region.

Casquejo said the barangay and SK elections will be manually tallied. He added that the public school teachers are the priorities in choosing members of the Board of Election Tellers (BET), with an increase honorarium.

The Comelec assured it will be vigilant against attempts at elections fraud. In Davao Region, more than three million registered voters are expected to vote in the upcoming barangay and SK elections.
