Comval sets up reform prog for ex-rebs, allies
NABUNTURAN, Compostela Valley - Flocked by large number of surrendered New People’s Army (NPA) members and supporters, the local government unit of Compostela Valley is now setting a program to bring sustainable changes to the surrenderers.
In an interview, Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy disclosed that they are crafting a wholistic course to be named as Oplan ng Pagbabago under the Bayanihan program.
“This program will focus on changing the paradigm of these people who, maybe out of fear, are being swayed by the communist group to be part of their organization or support their movement,” Uy stressed.
He added that he aims that this program will enable the government and its services be felt by the surrenderees.
Governor Uy said that Oplan Pagbabago will also involve the local government units, tribal councils and national government agencies, whose program can be fitted to the needs of the surrenderees.
Oplan Pagbabago will complement the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program of the Department of Interior and Local Government.
“Since the ECLIP only caters to NPA members and those in the Militia ng Bayan, Oplan ng Pagbabago will also include the supporters who make up most of the surrenderers,” Uy said.
Uy bared that the numbers of NPA members and supporters in the province who surrendered are still being consolidated but he said that it could reach to about 8,000.
He added that around 90-95% of those are supporters. PIA11, Michael Uy
