City execs in Vigan to observe ‘Palaro’
SOME Davao City government officials are now in Vigan, Ilocos Sur to observe the Palarong Pambansa 2018 in preparation for the upcoming hosting of the city of the same event in 2019.
City assistant administrator Atty. Lawrence Bantiding, City Sports and Development Office office-in-charge Michael Denton Aportadera, and Public Safety and Security Command Center head retired General Benito De Leon are among the officials who are in Vigan right now.
“They are to stay there until they learn best practices,” said Jefry Tupas, city information officer.
Davao City won the bid for next year’s Palarong Pambansa and it was Bantiding who presented the bid on behalf of Davao City Mayor Sara DuterteCarpio.
The city is considering security and other aspects in preparations for the success of Palarong Pambansa 2019, and the city officials are in the process of fixing the events, venues and billeting areas of the participants.
Tupas, in yesterday’s interview, is hopeful that the sporting facility at the University of the Philippines will be ready for the big sporting activities next year.
Apart from Palarong Pambansa, the city government will also host next year’s Davraa meet.
The city successfully hosted the Davao Region
Athletic Association (Davraa) at the University of Mindanao Sports Center last February 23, and Mayor Duterte-Carpio made her intention clear that she has high hopes in giving new experience next year, indicating that the city will host the same event in 2019.
