Ex-village chair, 4 others nabbed for gun ban violation
MANILA - Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) have arrested at least five individuals, including a former barangay chairman, for allegedly violating the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban.
NBI Chief Director Dante Gierran identified the subjects as Maynard Alfaro, a former chairman of Baranggay 134 Zone 23 Pasay City, the latter’s brothers Jonathan Alfaro and Archie Alfaro, and two others identified as Romeo Laurenaria Jr. and Henry Moyano.
Gierran said the five were arrested by the NBI operatives in a posh subdivision in Cavite last April 14, when the gun ban took effect in connection with the forthcoming Baranggay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.
Aside from the said violation, the subjects were also alleged to have violated the Republic Act 9165 or the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, according to Gierran.
The arrest of the five stemmed from an information that illegal drug transactions by a group called “Nanad Group”, allegedly led by the Alfaro brothers, were being conducted at a house in a subdivision in Cavite.
According to the NBI, the arrest of the subjects yielded live ammunitions, one caliber 40 pistol, one Glock 23
pistol, illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Charges for possession and Use of dangerous drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of R.A. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, were filed against the Alfaro brothers.
Aside from the said charges, Archie Alfaro, Laurenaria and Moyano are also facing charges for Violation of Batas Pambansa Bilang 881 (Omnibus Election Code of the Philippines) and Presidential Decree No.1829 (Obstruction of Justice), according to the NBI.
