Brgy, SK candidates urged to remain non-partisan Convergence approach in public service pushed
DAVAO DEL SUR-The Commission on Elections in the province reminded all candidates for the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) and barangay elections to remain non-partisan as required by law.
Atty. Maria Febes Barlaan, provincial election supervisor, also reminded politicians to keep away from the non-partisan elections.
She said all politicians, those with political or without political parties, stay away from the barangay elections because this election is for the communities and thus it should be nonpartisan.
Barlaan stated that candidates should not use any name of politicians to get votes from the people.
It was noted that since some candidates have already filed their certificate of candidacy (CoC) on Saturday, they also disclosed to the public that they run because they were supported by their ‘padrino’ politician.
The barangay and SK elections should also be kept inexpensive, with candidates allowed to spend only around P100,000 or P5 per voter for the campaign.
Barangay is only a small geographic territory so candidates must not spend more than the allowed budget.
Comelec likewise reminded candidates on the existence of common poster areas.
Barlaan also reminded the candidates that there is a common poster area, and second, if they post it on private property, make sure that they have the consent of the property owner.
