Here we are again

THE campaign period for the barangay and SK elections is fast approaching and with it is the Commission on Elections’ warning of possible violence and votebuying during the election period.

“If you’re going to look for things to really watch out for, it’s really the violence that we’re concerned about,” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said during a television interview.

“We [also] watch out for, well, vote-buying, obviously, for people who [will attempt to influence this year’s elections],” he added.

It has been observed that elections, whether national or barangay, in this country are very much “lively”, especially in some areas where the positions are hotlycontested.

It is during this time that people should be more vigilant in securing their votes and more discerning who to vote for. Barangay election, small as it may seem, is as important as electing your president since barangay officials are the ones who are at the forefront of a village. It is them who take the initiative for your barangay.

Whether you see it in your barangay officials or not, this time, it will depend on you to choose the same without character or to opt for candidates who are “matino, mahusay and maaasahan”, as what the Department of the Interior and Local Government has been campaigning for for a candidate.

It is high time for us voters to never allow money nor violence to alter our proper judgment, with the aid of the DILG’s list of qualities a candidate must possess, on who to vote for.

Remember that barangays are a forefront of the government service. A prosperous and developed country starts from a properly governed village.

Let everyone of us be part of the watchdog so that nobody and nothing can sway our right judgment on who to vote for.
