City HR committee to inspect relocation site in Maa

-

SANGGUNIANG PANLUNGSOD committee on civil community and human rights chair Atty. Antonette "Petit" Principe last Tuesday bared that members of her committee is set to conduct ocular inspection on the livability of the relocation site of residents of Purok 26 Camarine, Riverside Maa which were allegedly inhumanely treated upon their eviction from a private land.

“We have already conducted two committee hearings, we will be conducting ocular inspection visits because they already have a relocation site and the residents need to see if the relocation site is fit for them already,” she said.

She said the residents found the relocation chosen by the owner unfit for them as there are no water and electricity in the area. This is the reason why with the help of the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO), the committee deemed it that an ocular visit be conducted.

She said they are also looking into the manner of how the properties of the residents were dismantled because as alleged by the residents, they were inhumanely treated as the demolition was done in the wee hours of the morning, around 3 a.m to 4 a.m.

Principe said they are looking forward to come up ways to settle this issue amicably.

The residents in fact signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the owner of the lot that they will transfer to the relocation site. This MOA did not indicate though

that utilities will be provided. However, the residents said the landowner promised to provide the utilities.

Principe said that a total of 89 families were evicted from the land, and 14 to 15 families have already transferred to the relocation site located in Barangay Batu, Toril District. KVC
