6 face raps for last 2

SIX people are facing charges before the court after they were arrested for playing illegal numbers game in separate incidents in the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos), Davao del Norte province.

Facing charges for violation of the Republic Act 9287 or The Penalties for Illegal Numbers Games are Analie Relatado, April Cabatuna, Elma Saraum, Jonalyn Bacatan, Jojie Ronda and Ulyden Tigualo.

In a record obtained from the Police Regional Office (PRO) in Davao Region, the suspects were caught in the act facilitati­ng and/or soliciting bets for the game “Last Two” digits.

‘Last Two” is a game based on the last two digit numbers in the lotto draw of the Philippine Charity Sweepstake­s Office (PCSO). According to authoritie­s, playing Last Two is illegal.

Police said the five suspects were nabbed in Barangay Peñaplata in Samal District, while one was arrested in Barangay Mambago, Babak. Recovered from them were various illegal gambling parapherna­lia.

The suspects were brought to Igacos Police Station for record and proper dispositio­n. They were also brought to the prosecutio­n office on Wednesday for inquest proceeding­s.

Under Section 4 of the Republic Act 9287, possession of any gambling parapherna­lia and other materials used in the illegal numbers game is deemed prima facie evidence of an illegal gambling act.
