PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte vowed to promote protection and promotion of rights of migrant workers upon his attendance to the 32nd Association of Southeast Asia Nations (Asean) Summit in Singapore.

The president, prior to his departure at the Davao City International Airport (DIA) on Thursday afternoon, said he will push the Asean consensus on the protection and the promotion of the rights of the migrant workers and the Asean declaration on the law on civil service as a catalyst to realize Asean Vision 2025.

“Rest assured that we will take every opportunity to use every available venue to uphold and protect the rights of our countrymen,” he said.

He said in the summit he will discuss with countries in the Asean region the threats on peace and security and terrorism.

“When I return as usual, I shall report what we have achieved as we continue to stay true with our mandate in serving the best interest of our nation,” he said.

The president said he borrowed a small jet that will bring him to Singapore but he has to pay for the fuel.

He said that he also hired a private stewardess for his trip.

The two-day Asean Summit, held on April 27-28, based on reports, gather only the 10 Asean members, namely, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam.
