Drivers using fake IDs warned
THE Davao City Transportation and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) warned drivers who are using fake identification cards that they will definitely be punished once they are caught.
Head of the CTTMO, Dionisio Abude told Sun. Star Davao yesterday that they will file charges to those who will be caught in the act of using or possessing fake IDs.
“If they will be caught in the act using fake IDs, we can do warrantless arrest, and we will proceed to the police station to put record on file and then file charges of falsificaAT tion of documents under the Revised Penal Code,” he said.
Based on a report from the Davao City Information Office (CIO), Abude initially issued the warning to all drivers, after the arrest of Virgilio “Boy” Libawan, who was detained for making fake PUV IDs and selling them for P200 to P300.
Abude reminded drivers that the acquisition of IDs and licenses is not a right but a privilege.
Acquiring PUV ID entails attendance to driver’s education seminar intended to educate drivers on safety driving, proper behavior and also traffic signalizations. After the training, their names and licenses will be encoded by the CTTMO system.
Aside from that, the PUV drivers need also to present their franchise to get the IDs.
In an interview yesterday Abude said that he suspects that those who are using fake IDs were probably those who have not yet claimed their IDs due to lack of PUV vehicle franchise which was required by the City Traffic Code.
Abude said that they are finalizing the guidelines on apprehending drivers with fake IDS, saying that they have not filed a falsification case yet against any driver, only against someone who was caught selling fake IDs.
Based on CIO report, after a month of implementation since April 1, the CTTMO has already apprehended 253 vehicles without PUV IDs.
The PUV ID is no ordinary ID, as it has a quick response (QR) code feature, which can be
scanned through an application, and reveal the driver’s identity, ID number and the date of issuance.
The QR code also has a feature where passengers can file a complaint to the CTTMO. KVC
