City gives assistance to demolition victims

LEAST 54 affected families from the demolition in Barangay 26-C, Salmonan, Quezon Boulevard, Davao City received food packs and other assistance from the Davao City Social Services Developmen­t Office (CSSDO) Tuesday, May 8.

The 54 affected families temporaril­y resided at Brgy 23-C Hall and Brgy. 26-C Mini Forest Boulevard covered court, which will also be used as a polling precinct in the upcoming Barangay and Sagunniang Kabataan (SK) elections, while some are residing with their relatives and some Moro families are in their mosque.

CSSDO head Maria Luisa T. Bermudo said in an interview that they have sent their mobile kitchen last Tuesday to Brgy. 26-C gym, which served as their operation center and they have provided the families with Halal and non-halal food packs with up to four to five kilograms of rice.

They also have child-friendly facilities at Brgy. 23-C and Brgy. 26-C for the children with social workers and daycare center workers.

The City Health Office (CHO) also sent its mobile team to ensure the health of the residents in the area.

Bermudo said before the demolition they have offered the residents their temporary shelter located in Los Amigos, Davao City but the residents have refused since they said it is far. The temporary shelter is usually offered to demolished affected families and disaster victims.

"We are having an undergoing monitoring, whatever assistance the city can provide we will offer it to them," she added.

She also identified some affected families as renters and have already advised them to find other place to rent for them to be comfortabl­e.

According to the CSSDO masterlist last Tuesday, there are a total of 103 families affected by the demolition.
