Graphic artists push concern

-

IN the middle of the copyright fuss that sent social media abuzz, Manic Nightning's Kat Dalisay said she already ended the issue when she apologized and was forgiven. But local art groups remain agitated.

The event organizer who initially responded with a "no comment" in yesterday's interview already had her piece and shared that the issue should be put to rest since Lisa Tegtmeier, the digital artist whose artwork was used for a Fun Run poster of Dalisay's event, already accepted the latter's explanation.

"The original artist of Love on the Run image [poster] has no more complaints. She just asked us to take it down. And we did. End of story," Dalisay stated in a private message with the writer.

She also made it clear that she does not owe anyone money or have balance for unpaid artworks.

She however could not resist to post a response on young designer Juliana Hellmuth's earlier

post because "it was out of the line".

Dalisay expressed, "If she is really passionate about these rights, like the other members of the Davao Graphic Designers Community, [she should have messaged me] and cleared it up. Not post chismis." No idea it was stolen In the latter part of the interview, Dalisay also clarified that she did not have any intentions to steal or copy without permission. She herself is a victim to copycats as well.

"My event themes and names are always copied by competitors.. there was even a time that a company used my powerpoint proposal as their own poster. Themes and everything. I know how it feels to be stolen from," she said.

The only difference though, she added, the company she hired to do the layout for her promotional materials did the copying [lifting of artworks without the knowledge of the artist] on purpose.

"I did not even know it was stolen," she continued.

When asked who the graphic artist who stole the piece was, the event organizer kept her stance and said, "I will protect my staff -- protect meaning not go on telling people this is the name of the artist, blame him."

"I don't agree with what he did. But it won't correct the situation if ilaglag ko siya. We did the necessary demands of the original artist- take down the post," she furthered.CCC(For full story visit www.sunstar.com.ph/davao/)
