THE National Youth Commission (NYC) reminded the soon-to-be elected Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials to undergo mandatory training scheduled on May 16 to 29 before they assume office to be equipped with knowledge and skills on their respective duties.

Julius Gutierrez, head of NYC Davao, during a press briefing at The Royal Mandaya Hotel yesterday said that in Davao region, NYC had initially conducted the SK meeting preparation. The training will be a prerequisite before elected SK candidates officially assume office.

They also plan the mandatory training with Local Resource Institutes (LRIs) and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

“If they don’t undergo the mandatory training, they cannot actually assume the function as an SK official,” Gutierrez said.

He added that this mandatory training will highlight the five key re-

forms of the SK Enhanced Reform Act 10742.

The SK elected officials will undergo modules and workshops in Good Governance, Ethical Standards, meeting preparations and resolutions, budgeting, and planning.

“They will have fiscal autonomy and the 10 percent budget of the Barangay will be given to them, and they will be handling it to the SK council,” he said.

He added that the initiatives and programs of the SK officials for the youth must be in accordance to the Centers of Participation of Philippine Youth Development Plan 20172022 which is Health, Education, Economic Empowerment, Social Inclusion and Equity, Peace-Building and Security, Governance, Active Citizenship, Environment, and Global Mobility.
