SBP to hold cage tryout, May 19-20

-

THE Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) Davao Region will hold a two-day basketball tryout at the Genesis 88 Gym starting May 19 in a bid to create a Davao City selection team for the upcoming 2018 Kadayawan Invitational Tournament this August.

SBP executive program officer Ronel Leuterio, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao recently, calls out for cagers 18 years old and above who aspire to represent the city against three undetermined University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) teams in the annual cagefest presented by Sports Development Division-City Mayor’s Office (SDDCMO).

Leuterio said SBP regional director and presidential adviser for sports Glenn Escandor aims to create a selection team out of Davao City's homegrown players including the commercial and collegiate levels.

"The concept is we would want to create a culture reflective of what Davao City has and what Davao is all about," he said, "That's why we will have a tryout and select the 15 most promising (basketball players) who will be trained by us for the next three months in preparation for the league this August."

Leuterio added that he and former Ateneo de Davao University Blue Knights head coach and De La Salle University coaching staff Miggy Solitaria will coach the Davao City selection.

If Davao City will be able to join the fastgrowing Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL), the 15 selected players from the tryouts will definitely be the priority.

The tryout will start at 3:00pm. ABM
