Bamboo in Davao

-

Born Francisco Gaudencio Lope Belardo Mañalac, the boy from Quezon City would later be known as Bamboo, the quintessential Filipino rock star from the 90s up until the present.

In the mid 1990s he was the vocalist of the band Rivermaya, churning out hits like 214, Awit ng Kabataan, Ulan, Kisapmata, Himala Hinahanap-hanap Kita, and Elesi.

Bamboo’s stay with Rivermaya produced three hit albums (Rivermaya, Trip and Atomic Bomb). They were the mainstays of the second golden era of Pinoy Rock along with bands such as Eraserheads, Yano and Parokya ni Edgar.

Bamboo left Rivermaya in 1998 and lived in the United States. In 2003 he returned to perform with his band also named Bamboo. The band produced four albums (As the Music Plays, Light Peace and Love, We Stand Alone Together, Tomorrow Becomes Yesterday). From these albums came massive hits such as Noypi, Mr. Clay, Hallelujah, Tatsulok (cover).

Since 2011 Bamboo Mañalac has gone solo and has produced two albums (No Water, No Moon and God Bless This Child). He became visible on television, regularly performing on ASAP and was one of the judges in The Voice of the Philippines.

He is an in-demand performer headlining concerts and shows across the country. Now, on July 14 Dabawenyos will get to see him at the Crocodile Park Event Grounds.

The concert is organized by Bace Productions who gave you massive OPM rock concerts such as Inuman Sessions with Parokya Ni Edgar and Hale, Musica et Vita and the recent Ely Buendia concert.

The July 14 Bamboo concert will be participated by promising local bands Zokomilk, Nairud sa Wadab and Point Blank.

“We really wanted to promote OPM, because it is our music. In one year we were able to produce three big concerts which featured the biggest bands and musicians of the country and we plan to do more,” says Angel Selorio-Uy, one of the founders of Bace.

She said Bace will pull out all the stops to bring a one-of-a-kind concert experience that Dabawenyos will surely enjoy.

Mother and Child Aromatherapy workshop

A few weeks ago, I was invited to an aromatherapy workshop organized by Do Terra Essential Oils. I am a user of essential oils particularly when I’m down with fatigue and recently during a bout with flu.

The workshop held at the Holiday Gym was a unique workshop as it involved mothers and their kids, mostly babies.

According to Sharon Mascariñas who brought Do Terra to the country, there are healthy benefits if a baby is massaged by essential oils. Among these include a calming effect, digestive support, infant skin care, respiratory support, teething among many others. It also enhances the bonding between a mother and her child which they are keen to promote.
