Driver who ran over child, freed

-

LESS than two weeks since the fatal road incident, the driver of the armored vehicle owned by Davao Security and Investigation Agency, Inc. (Dasia) who accidentally ran over a two-year-old was freed on Monday afternoon, May 21.

San Pedro Police Station commander Police Chief Inspector Ramil Macarampat said yesterday that the court had already ruled and declared the case as dismissed and had issued a release order to free Gregorio Antonio Vito Jr., 23, after almost two weeks of detention.

Earlier, the parents of the victim in a road accident dropped the charges case they filed earlier against the driver through the filing of an affidavit of desistance last Tuesday, May 15, citing that they are no longer interested to pursue the case against Vito.

Vito was previously facing a case of Reckless Imprudence Resulting to

Homicide filed by the parents on May 10 after their son, Loviege Pangantihon, was dead on the spot.

It can be recalled that on May 10, the victim was killed after he was ran over an armored car after running towards the pedestrian lane on San Pedro Street. The driver said he thought the two had completely crossed the street.

A video of the incident had gone viral online which showed that the vehicle was moving slowly when the mother and the kid finally crossed the street. The mother was holding her son but the child suddenly got freed from his mother's hand and backtracked. It was too late when the mother noticed her son ran off.
