Illegal gambling still prevalent

ILLEGAL gambling is still prevalent in the region, specifical­ly Last 2.

Data obtained from the Police Regional Office (PRO) in Davao Region stated that a total of 257 illegal gambling cases were filed in court from January to April this year.

Out of the 257 cases, 128 are in Davao City, 82 in Davao del Norte, 25 in Davao del Sur, 11 in Compostela Valley, seven in Davao Occidental, and four in Davao Oriental.

Just last Monday, charges were filed before the City Prosecutio­n Office (CPO) in Davao against a 65-year-old man nabbed for illegal gambling in Tibungco in Davao City on Saturday afternoon.

Facing charges for violation of the Republic Act 9287, otherwise known as The Penalties for Illegal Numbers Games, is Romarico Segara, 65, a

resident of Marietta Village in Tibungco.

Personnel of the Bunawan Police Station accompanie­d the suspect to the prosecutio­n office on Monday morning for the inquest proceeding­s. He is currently detained at the station.

Report obtained from the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) showed that the suspect was arrested around 4:50 p.m. at Marietta Village after he was caught collecting bets.

Segara was found in possession of one detached claim stub sheet, one pen and other illegal gambling parapherna­lia.ICT
