Davao’s men’s beach spikers enter semis

Women bounce back from 1st set loss

CEBU CITY - Davao City men’s spikers barged into the semifinals after beating General Santos City (GSC) 1, 21-14, 21-14, in the Philippine National Games (PNG) 2018 men’s beach volleyball group eliminatio­n game at the Fort San Pedro here yesterday afternoon.

The Dabawenyos, coached by Abet Bernan, recorded three wins and one loss.

The tandem of Calvin Sarte, an 8th BIMP Eaga Friendship Games 2014 gold medalist, and Jan Ashley Jacob, a 9th BIMP Eaga Friendship Games 2016 bronze medalist, earlier spanked Cebu City, 21-15, 21-18, and defeated beating Puerto Princesa City, 21-10, 21-17. But Bernan’s wards bowed to Cebu Province, 18-21, 16-21.

In the distaff side, Davao City pair of Glenda Agang and Lycha Ebon recovered from a first set loss to survive a 15-21, 21-17, 15-10 victor over Pangasinan.

Agang said, “Sa first set bug-at pa among kinaon, nakabawi rami sa succeeding sets (We just recently ate we felt heavy but we were able come back in the next two sets).”

Ebon, for her part, said teamwork paved the way for them to bounce back. “Mas nag-istorya ra mi after the first set (We communicat­ed more after the first set loss).”

Agang and Ebon, teaming up for the first time in beach volleyball although they have been playing in regular volleyball, will play unbeaten Bayawan City bets today. The Dabawenyas must win to advance into the semifinals. MLSA
