Training held for SK officials
ISLAND Garden City of Samal — In pursuant to RA 10742 or the SK Reform Act of 2015, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Provincial office held a Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Mandatory Training for all duly elected SK chairpersons and SK kagawads, prior to their assumption to office, at Camp Holiday Resort and Recreation Area on May 17 to 19, 2018.
On May 17, 2018 the training was held for Babak District officials; May 18, 2018 for Samal District officials; and on May 19, 2018 for Kaputian District officials.
The training was attended by an estimated of 225 participants coming from all the Barangays in Samal Island. The training was meant for honing the leadership skills of the young leaders and also an orientation to their roles in the society as individuals with authority.
Activities included in the training are discussions of their functions; brainstorming and planning of possible course of action in dealing with societal problems; sharing of their views and opinions; an oath taking, and the giving of certificates.
“The activities prepared by the speakers taught us the real meaning of collaboration, in which we are working with one another in achieving our common goals as leaders of the youth," one of the participants said.
Furthermore, the speakers instilled in them the knowledge and wisdom of politics and the sense of responsibility and accountability in regards with their role, power and functions, their ability in facilitating meetings, planning and passing a resolution, and engagement with the government.
“Before, the SK is known for Basketball leagues, beauty contest and such which are not effective in developing the youth. Now, we are raising this new reform to erase the negative impression of SK and make this as a way to help the youth to become productive members of the community,” Jomar Von Batucan, the Samal Youth Coordinator, said.
For her part, DILG City Local Government Operation Officer Rosario P. Laid said, “I hope that you will not forget what you have learned during SK Mandatory Training in the implementation of your functions as SK officials.” Sheila Mae Caupayan/Samal Info.
