THE Cebu Landmasters Inc. (CLI) and the Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) is set to introduce a new township concept to Dabawenyos as they enter a memorandum of agreement for the development of the LPU Town Center in Davao City.

The LPU Town Center is a mixed-use development and a university town that will rise in a 17-hectare property in Buhangin, Davao City.

"This is the first of its kind as far as LPU is concerned," Dr. Peter P. Laurel, president of LPU Batangas and Laguna, said during the MOA signing with CLI at the Seda Abreeza Hotel yesterday.

The township will have academic, residential, commercial, office, hotel, and convention components.

The LPU Davavo campus will rise in a 5.2 hectare area of the back of the property; the front portion of the development will have the hotel and commercial components; and the center will have the offices and residential components.

For the first phase of the academic component, LPU will put up two buildings wherein its architecture is inspired by its Cavite campus. Laurel said the first phase of their Davao campus will be able to cater to around 5,000 students.

Felipe Balingit, LPU vice president and chief of the Academic Office, said the university will have green features like solar

panels and a water treatment system to recycle used water.

Jose Franco B. Soberano, CLI executive vice president and chief operating officer, said CLI will also be establishing a residential tower in the area under its Casa Mira brand.

"This will offer a convenient housing option for those studying at LPU Davao or those who want to live near the airport," Soberano said.

The development of the LPU Town Davao is expected to start by the fourth quarter of this year. Laurel said they would be ready to accept students by June 2019.

"Our vision together with LPU is to make LPU Town Davao a premier university townwhip," Jose R. Soberano III, CLI chairmand and chief-executiveofficer, said in a statement. RJL
