TAGUM CITY—The City Government of Tagum is eyeing another top commodity to be ventured by local farmers here: onion bulbs.

Strengthening the area of agriculture as stipulated in the 10-point development agenda dubbed as EAGLE WINGS of the Rellon-Gementiza administration, the City Agriculture Office (CAGRO) under the leadership of City Agriculturist Engr. Harold S. Dawa conducted the Onion Bulb Harvest Festival last May 25, 2018 at the Energy Park, Apokon, Tagum City.

Under the festival, local farmers were trained on proper cultivation to reap good harvests of the said commodity. Like the placebo effect, the result of this successful cultivation will generate new opportunities for Tagumenyo famers for another source of income that will eventually contribute to the reduction of the poverty in Tagum, according to the city agriculturist.

Being first in Mindanao as Engr. Dawa has said, this event caught the attention of the regional and provincial officers of the Department of Agriculture (DA). The Regional Director, Ricardo M. Oñate, has graced the festival by witnessing and joining the harvest of the newly cultivated and produced east west onion variety.

In lieu of Mayor Allan L. Rellon, Executive Assistant II Rod Laguna shared a message which contains Rellon’s happiness and pride for the CAGRO in achieving a new milestone for Tagum’s Agriculture.
