MANILA - The Philippine National Police (PNP) received on Tuesday, May 29, 130 patrol vehicles from the Korean government.

In a simple ceremony held at the Camp Karingal in Quezon City, Korean Ambassador H.E Han DongMan and Commissioner General of Korea National Police Agency Lee Chul-Sung turned over 49 units of Hyundai Elantra and 81 units of Starex Van to PNP chief Oscar Albayalde and Department of Interior and Local Government undersecretary for Peace and Order, Bernardo Florece, Jr.

The donation was made through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) project to boost anticriminality and criminal investigation efforts of the PNP, especially in areas where Korean communities have been established.

“These latest additions to police mobility will be distributed to the Directorate for Investigation and Detection Management, Criminal Investigation and Detective Group, Anti- Kidnapping Group, AntiCybercrime Group, and National Capital Region Police,” said Albayalde.

He said the provincial and city police offices of Angeles, Cebu, Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue, Davao and Baguio will be among the recipients.

Albayalde said in return, the Korean ambassador to the Philippines urged the PNP to solve cases which involve Korean victims.

“Una hiningi sa atin ng Korean ambassador is pagresolba sa mga kaso involving victims na Korean nationals and we promise na gagawin ang lahat para maresolba ang mga kaso na ito,” he said.

(First, the Korean ambassador requested that we resolve cases involving Korean nationals. We will do everything we can to resolve these cases.)

On July 12, 2017, the KOICA project accord was signed between the PNP and Korean Embassy on enhancing the criminal investigation capability of the PNP as the first cooperative project between the Republic of Korea and the Philippines.
