10 Mindanao firms in Dole's list
Firms practice labor-only contract; Dole to continue inspection
WITH half of the list of companies that employ labor-only contract practices are found in Mindanao, the Department of Labor and Employment 11 (Dole 11) said they continue to do rotational inspections to prevent companies in Davao Region for practicing laboronly employment.
Last Monday, May 28, Dole released a list of the 20 companies nationwide that do this. Out of this list, 10 are to be found in Mindanao. In Davao Region, only one made it to the list which was the Franklin Baker Inc. located at Darong, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur. According to the list, the company employs around 3,400 contractual employees.
In a statement by Dole 11, they said they continue to do rotational inspections in different companies in the region. On top of this, the companies are also encouraged by the government agency to voluntarily regularize their employees as well.
The business establishments in Davao Region had earlier been noted by Dole 11 to be obedient and are the ones voluntarily ending employee contractualization even before Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III released the Department Order on Contracting and Subcontracting (DO 174) March of last year.
In an earlier published report late last year, almost 5,000 workers from 38 different companies in Davao Region had been set to be regularized. These companies are primarily into manufacturing, agriculture, retail, and services.
Through the Labor Law Compliance System unit of Dole Davao Region, they do a series of validations to ensure compliance of the involved establishments on regularizing their employees.
Other Mindanao-based companies that were in the list released by Dole were Dole Philippines, Inc. in Polomolok, South Cotabato (14,960 contractual employees); Philsaga Mining Corporation in Agusan del Sur (6,524); General Tuna Corporation in Brgy. Tambler (5,216); General Santos City, KCC Property Holdings, Inc. in Lagao, General Santos City (1,802); Sumifru Philippines, Corp. in T’boli, South Cotabato (1,687); Hinatuan Mining Corporation in Surigao del Norte (1,673); KCC Mall de Zamboanga in Zamboanga City (1,598); Dolefil Upper Valley Operations in Surallah, South Cotabato (1,183); and the Dole-Stanfilco in Crossing Rubber, Tupi, South Cotabato (1,131).
