Only half of Dabawenyos know BBL: Ateneo survey

In the recent City Wide Social Survey 9 (CWSS9) conducted by Ateneo de Davao University (Addu), around half of Dabawenyos are aware of the Bagsamoro Basic Law (BBL).

Conducted through face to face interviews with 630 adults in three districts within Davao City, in random sampling, 50.5 percent said that they are aware of BBL while 49.5 percent said that they are not.

For those who are aware of it, 89.6 percent said they are made aware of the BBL through television.

Meanwhile, other news sources were also identified. Out of the 50.5 who said yes, 11.3 percent of them said

they got the informatio­n from radio; six percent read it on the newspaper; five percent said they got the informatio­n through social media; 4.7 percent said they learned about it through discussion­s or forums; 3.8 percent said they knew it from neighbors; 2.2 said they got aware of BBL through the internet; and 0.3 percent from other sources.

When asked if they have read the BBL, out of those who said yes, only 10.4 said they have read it and the remaining 89.6 percent said that they have not read the BBL draft.

Majority or 94.8 percent of those who said that they are aware said they 'don't know" when asked if whether or not BBL can help promote peace and order in Mindanao.

Only 3.2 percent strongly agreed that it can help promote peace, one percent agreed, 0.6 percent disagreed, while 0.5 strongly disagreed that it will bring peace to Mindanao.

Majority of those who said they are aware of BBL or 95.6 percent also said that they do not know whether BBL is constituti­onal or not. Only 2.1 percent strongly agreed, one percent agreed, 0.5 percent disagreed, and one percent strongly disagreed.

In multiple response, 50.79 percent of respondent­s said military operation is the way to attaining peace in Mindanao; 29.36 said that it can be achieved through dialogue; 11.42 percent said that it can be done through Federalism; 8.73 percent said others; 3.33 percent said the end of martial law will be a key to attaining peace in Mindanao; while 3.01 percent said the amendment of the constituti­on will be a key to peace in the island.
