THE Davao City Police Office (DCPO) is looking for additional 400 Volunteer Police Auxiliary (VPA) who will serve as force multipliers in peacekeeping duties to sustain the safety and security of the public against criminals and lawless elements in the city.

DCPO director Police Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum said that the City Mayor's Office (CMO) gave them another quota to fill for the next batch of VPA who will be deployed in all 12 police stations under their unit.

"This is to expand the security coverage of our static security," Tagum said in an interview.

It has been over a year already since the launching of Oplan Integrated Revitalized Operation of Neighborhood-Watch for the Mega City (Iron City), an upgraded integrated police patrol system aimed at making the city safer through the recruitment of 910 auxiliary cops.

Tagum had previously said that there was a huge drop of index crimes in the city following the hiring of auxiliary cops last May 22, 2017. This program further enhances police visibility which is a major factor in deterring crimes.

Currently, there are 823 active VPA and 87 have resigned or were terminated, Tagum said.

The volunteers will undergo training on selfdefense, how to assist police in patrols, spotting suspicious packages and individuals, law enforcement and traffic management, among others.

Every Auxiliary officer will receive a monthly allowance of P6,000 along with other benefits from the local government.
