Building a good business in building
OVER the years, the Philippines' economic development had been mirrored by the different infrastructure developments in the country in the form of skyscrapers, wide stable bridges, and buildings with beautiful infrastructure designs. These infrastructure developments have changed the landscape and had set a new face reflecting how the Philippines perform economically.
Now, with the current administration's aim towards being on the "golden age of infrastructure" through its Build, Build, Build program, it is but high time and a good opportunity for construction companies.
One of the construction companies taking advantage of this opportune time is Bislig Venture Construction and Development, Inc. (BVCDI) located in Trinidad Greenhills, Ma-a, Davao City.
BVCDI, an ISO-certified company, officially started out into construction in 1983 as JR Falcon Construction. However, years before this, the father of BVCDI Jesnar R. Falcon, had also ventured into trucking services with Southeast Asia’s largest pulp and paper mill at the time the PICOP Resources Inc.
It was in February 1997 when they changed it to its current name of Bislig Venture Construction and Development, Inc - having named so to give honor and pride to Bislig where the family was from.
Right after graduating from the University of San Carlos as a civil engineer in 1989, Jed Falcon, started in helping the business until he was appointed as President/CEO in 2007. From then, they have started small projects with the Department of Public Works and Highways since they focus on their contract with PICOP until in 2015 when they got a 5.4-km road construction project in Davao del Norte and its succeeding phase which involves another 3.6-km road construction plus two (2) bridges in between.
This project seemed to have been their pivotal project as from then on they were awarded other government projects as well. Still in 2015, they were the ones behind the concreting of the 4-kilometer road and bridge project in Barobo, Surigao del Sur. The year after that, the construction of the 36 meter Libuganon Bridge was also awarded to them.
Just recently they have also completed the 140-meter second phase of the C.P. Garcia bridge along Diversion Road which President Rodrigo R. Duterte himself inaugurated.
It is indeed true that with the direction of infrastructure in the Philippines, different modernization and development measures should be considered.
As for BVCDI, they decided to go with the flow of this development and to make sure they are not left behind. As they specialize on bridge construction and as they have foreseen they would need good amount of girders for the C.P. Garcia bridge project, they founded just last year their affiliate company - the BVCDI Foundation and Girder Corporation. Because of this, they wouldn't need to order and wait for girders from other suppliers for they make it themselves.
"We have innovated. We engage in design and build. Our clients even government agencies would choose this scheme. We have a complete set of design team and engineers," Engr. Jed Falcon said who added that in the future they may also put up a girder plant facility in Mintal.
Now, with their initiative of establishing a girder and foundation company, they are already supplying girders for the construction of the Talomo and Arakan bridges.
Aside from road and bridge construction, BVCDI had also been involved in the construction of a 5-storey building of the Caraga Regional Hospital which started in 2016 and have just recently been completed.
"I think the success of the company is on our team – I cannot do it alone. We have a complete set of technical personnel. We have upgraded the quality and discipline of our staff. We recruit personnel based on the integrity and character it should be the backbone of every individual, but most especially we take care of our employees,” Falcon said.
